The reason why many have not seen their share of success can be as numerous as the vastness of stars. All of these excusues can be mitigated with the right amount of planning. Before we proceed, here are two important questions we need to ask ourselves. "What is my definition of success?" and "How do I get from where I am right now to realizing that vision?"
Your definition of success is your vision, it is the big picture, so to speak. It is your imagination and all the emotion that come with seeing yourself where you want to be. Right now, many people see themselves at the top of thier career. They see their corner office, their names on the door, they see thier personal secretary and they can almost smell the coffee he/she is brewing for their drinking pleasure. Hold up! Visioneering is only the beginning.
Now that you have an idea of what success means to you, it's time to "draw up a map" to take you from where you are right now, at the coffee shop, and get you closer to that desired destination over a specific period of time. You see, imagination will show you so much but the way to actualize your big picture dream is to break the vision into specific goals that you can work on. Prioritize your steps and as you check off your accomplishments, you may find the need to alter or eliminate some goals.
It is true that there are a fortunate few who were born into abundance. It is also true that at one point in time somebody had to have imagined such wealth and then set certain goals to create such legacy. So, when someone asks you, "Why plan?" "Why have visions?" "Who need goals?" You can tell them that, "success is a relatively long journey that requires a roadmap." The plan(s), vision(s) and the goal(s) are your roadmap to success.
